Breastfeeding may be natural, but that doesn't mean it is always easy!
Breastfeeding may be natural, but that doesn't mean it is always easy!
Breastfeeding may be natural, but it does not come naturally to every mother and baby. Most women stop breastfeeding due to pain, concerns about milk supply, and overall frustration with the process.
As an IBCLC, I am here to support you through reaching your feeding goals - whatever they may be - and help you gain confidence to provide for your little one.
Lactation consultations are a comprehensive evaluation of your breastfeeding situation. I will assess all the aspects of your journey and provide you with a customized care plan for you and baby going forward.
Home visits typically last about 1.5-2 hours for the initial visit and about 1 hour for follow-up visits. During this time, we take a full history, assess a feeding and/or pumping sessions, and observe a weighted feed. We will work together to develop a plan for feeding your baby and meet YOUR breastfeeding goals.
Prior to your scheduled appointment, I will send you an email with intake and consent forms to complete, so I have an understanding of your goals and questions prior to meeting. This also allows us to get right to the evaluation, without focusing on paperwork.
Following your appointment, I will continue to follow-up with you by phone, text, and email to evaluate how well your care plan is working and make additional suggestions.
My lactation consultation price includes travel up to a 40 mile radius from Clinton, MN. I am willing to travel outside of this distance (within reason), but an extra mileage charge will be added.
These appointments are also available at my office in Clinton, MN.
Sometimes it simply doesn't work to meet in person - due to distance, weather, or health concerns. Virtual consultations can be just as effective in assessing breastfeeding. I recommend that you have a partner or support person present during your consultation so they can hold the phone/camera!
The biggest difference with a virtual visit is the lack of a weighted feed and full oral examination of your baby - simply because we are not in the same physical space.
These services are available virtually throughout the United States.
Some of the most common pumping complaints - pain, low input, and more - are due to the wrong flange size. The "standard" size flange that comes with your pump are almost never the correct size for you. Flange fitting allows you to find the size that works best for you and will help to make your pump the most effective.
Flange fitting is available in person at my office in Clinton, MN or virtually from wherever you are. This service can also be added to any of the other lactation consultation options I provide.
